According to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza, at about 1 a.m. in the area of Moorpark and Saratoga Avenues a Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputy pulled over the Honda Civic Garcia was driving for a vehicle code violation. Garcia didn’t stop but continued to drive slowly for a few blocks and abruptly stop in the right lane of Moopark at Camina Escuela, which is about a half-mile from the Cupertino border.

As the deputy approached the car Garcia jumped out and ran. Barrios and Rodriguez remained in the vehicle, were uncooperative but said Garcia may have a weapon.

A K-9 unit from Sunnyvale police was called in to assist deputies who searched the neighborhood for hours. Garcia was located about 4:30 a.m. hiding near a shed in a yard a couple blocks from where he was pulled over.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation of some scratches thought to be obtained when while running from police.
