Whiz Kid: Stephen Kim

Monta Vista sophomore has traveled the world as an accomplished violinist.

This week’s Cupertino Patch Whiz Kid is Stephen Kim.

○      Why Stephen’s Whizzy: Stephen Kim, 15, is already an accomplished violinist. He started playing the violin at the age of three and in 2009, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall, and has been featured on "From the Top", NPR's classical music program.

Stephen has appeared as a soloist with the Stockton Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Prometheus Symphony Orchestra, Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, and Monta Vista Chamber Orchestra, among others. This past summer, Stephen performed Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major with the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen (AACA) Orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival and School.

Stephen was a participant in the Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival in Courmayeur, Italy, where his quartet and trio performed extensively in Valle d'Aosta region, he has also toured Germany and the Czech Republic as the youngest member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Stephen also attended the ASPEN Music Festival and School as a scholarship student of world-renowned violin teacher Paul Kantor.
