Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office deputies will escort the Special Olympics torch, known as the "Flame of Hope", from Cupertino to Los Gatos Thursday.
Deputies will gather at at 8 a.m. and carry the flame from Torre Avenue to Pacifica Drive and then onto De Anz Boulevard. Runners will continue on De Anza as it turns into Highway 9, where they will then pass the torch on to Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police officers.
Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Sheriff's Office said that two motor units will be escorting the runners on their journey.
The torch will be carried by local law enforcement officers Thursday through San Jose until it makes its final destination of the day in Milpitas.
Law enforcement torch runs will take place throughout Northern California through June 22, which will signify the start of the Special Olympic games where over 900 athletes will compete.
