Free Child Car Seat Safety Check on Sat., Sept. 21

Sen. Jerry Hill, the California Highway Patrol, Sunnyvale Public Safety Department and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital invite you to a free car seat safety check from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 21, in the parking lot of the Sunnyvale Public Library at 665 West Olive Avenue.

Learn about car seat safety laws, what you need to protect your children in vehicles and whether your children’s car seats are properly installed.

Why this is important:

--Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children in the U.S.

--Correct use of a child safety seat can reduce the child’s risk of death in a car accident as much as 71 percent.

--As many as 73 percent of the child car seats in use aren’t installed correctly.

--Child safety seats aren’t just for infants and toddlers. Your child may need to use booster seat depending on her or his weight and height.

The car seat safety inspections will be conducted by safety officials on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments are necessary.
