Fremont HS Class of '73 sets out to make a difference with 40th reunion

For almost 40 years, the Fremont High School Class of '73 has held well-attended reunions every five years. This year, the organizers have promised something new - to make a difference in the lives of others through fundraising.

When the two women at the helm, Lynn Sloyer Mobley and Sue Spahr Demling began talks about their upcoming reunion, thoughts turned to how to make this event unique.  "40 is a big number" said Mobley.  "At this point in our lives, we are seeing classmates pass on and we wanted to go all out and bring people together for something really special.  We were also looking to add a higher purpose to the reunion".

First, Mobley and Demling chose a spectacular venue in the Los Gatos Lodge. 

Feeling the need to get away from large hotel ballrooms, they chose the site for its beautiful property and intimate feel.  Next they targeted an objective not often seen at reunions and asked their classmates to support deserving non-profit organizations through a silent auction and raffle.  Donations from vacation packages to 49ers tickets have already been pledged with ideas for gifts still being received.

The proceeds will benefit Wounded Warrior Project.  Mobley stated, "As parents of active duty service members, children of WWII heroes, and many proud veterans themselves, the class will raise funds to honor and support those who have sacrificed much for their country".  A scholarship fund for the Fremont High School Alumni Association will also benefit.

The reunion will be held the weekend of August 17.  The main event, a dinner and dance which includes the silent auction and raffle, will be held at the Los Gatos Lodge on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.  Other events are planned.  Interested parties may contact Lynn Sloyer Mobley at lynn.mobley@yahoo.com.
