Crab Feed Draws Crowd of 550 Friday

Through Fremont Union High Schools Foundation fundraiser for its five schools, students and families feasted on all-you-can-eat crab.

Around 550 people stuffed their faces with crab -- or Indian food for vegetarians -- Friday evening, raising money for the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation, according to its organizers.

The twelfth annual event generated funds for the five high schools in the district: Cupertino, Lynbrook, Fremont, Homestead and Monta Vista.

This year in particular supported robotics at the schools, said event co-chair Judy Wilson. Students spotlighted their roving robots next to a stage where live music played throughout the night.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m., attendees—who paid $40 in advance and $50 at the door—chomped away animatedly, returning for seconds until the end. The event also auctioned off donated items, ranging from a pearl necklance that went for $500 to a box office seat to every show at the Flint Center for a year for a few thousand.

Founded in 1983, the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation is the primary fundraising tool for the district, helping finance things such as engineering and multimedia.
