Fall Festival, Bridge to Health Run Cap Busy Weekend

Photos from just two events around Cupertino over the weekend.

There was quite a bit going on around town this past weekend, with the Silicon Valley Fall Festival in Memorial Park on Saturday, and the YMCA's Bridge to Health Run on Sunday.

The Cupertino Rotary Club and World Journal collaborated on the Fall Festival, with support from the city and Cupertino Union School District. Rotary Club members Orrin Mahoney, also a city council member, and Savita Vaidhyanathan organized the activities.

Families enjoyed activity and food booths around Memorial Park, as well as entertainment throughout the day.

More than 200 runners and 100 volunteers participated in the Northwest YMCA's Bridge to Health Run on Sunday morning. The 5K course took runners and walkers from the Memorial Park parking lot behind the Cupertino Senior Center up Mary Avenue and over the  bicycle/pedestrian bridge into Sunnyvale and back.

The event raised money for the YMCA's outreach programs.

Cupertino's Sheriff Deputies and Santa Clara County Fire fighters participated in the 9/11 tribute in downtown San Jose on Sunday morning.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
