Frugal Family: Fabulous Food Finds

If you've found some great money-saving deals, we want to hear from you. Share them in the Comments section or send us your great finds.

We're all looking to save money, whether it's by cutting out restaurant meals, not buying those cute shoes in the window or clipping coupons.

Each week Frugal Family will share with you some kind of bargain or fabulous find. This week we focused on food and enlisted the help of AnyLeaf, a Bay Area startup that analyzes the weekly sales being offered by grocery and drug stores to find the very best deals each week.

For a complete list of deals, check out the AnyLeaf website.

  1. Huggies or Pampers Jumbo Diapers
    $8.99 at Safeway through Tuesday.

There aren't any amazing deals on diapers this week, but when you need them, you need them, so check out this deal at Safeway. If you don't need them, then buy a pack for the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks are participating in the NHL's "Hockey for Huggies" diaper drive. Even if you're not going to the game, you can drop off a pack at HP Pavilion on Thursday when the Sharks face the Washington Capitals. The diapers will benefit the organization "Help a Mother Out" and support local families in need.

  2. Coke
    $2.33 at CVS through Saturday.
12-pack, 12 ounce cans (1.6 cents per ounce)

If you're running low on Coke, CVS has 12-packs on sale this week for $2.33. Safeway is doing a buy-two, get-two-free sale on 12-packs as well. The best deal for two-liter bottles is at Walgreens at $1.25, but that's not an amazing deal, so just buy what you need and wait to stock up.

  3. Archer Farms Organic Milk
    $2.99 at Target through Saturday.
64-ounce containers (4.7 cents per ounce)

The last time Target put organic milk on sale was the first week of December, so this deal on milk doesn't come around too often.

  4. Assorted Pork Loin Chops
$1.67 per pound at Safeway through Tuesday.

This is an excellent deal on pork chops. It's within 30 cents per pound of the lowest price found by AnyLeaf. Fire up the grill!

  5. Grapes
77 cents per pound at Lucky, Friday-Sunday

In the words of Diana Krall, "Peel Me a Grape." Seventy-seven cents per pound is a good deal on grapes. The last time they were offered at this price was late October.

  6. Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna
50 cents at Safeway through Tuesday.
Five-ounce can (10 cents per ounce)

Tell 'em Charlie sent ya. Safeway provides a good opportunity to stock up this week. It's not uncommon for sales on 5-ounce canned tuna to be offered at 75 cents or even $1 per can, so this is one of the best deals AnyLeaf has seen on canned tuna.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
