Get Out!

The weekend is approaching, and you can't quite figure out what to do. Don't worry! Patch comes to the rescue with five suggestions of things to do you might enjoy!

Close to home, there are art openings, plays, lectures and more. Check out what's happening in and around Cupertino this weekend, and don't forget to add your own suggestions in the comments section below.

1.  CHINESE SPRING FESTIVAL GALA

Where/When:, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino; Saturday and Sunday, both at 7:30 p.m.

Why go: It's a unique opportunity to see leading artists from China touring the U.S. to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This spectacular is a fascinating combination of the Chinese performing arts. The stunting acrobatics, thrilling ethnic singing, elegant folk dance, legendary Shao Lin Kung Fu and sonorous drumming profoundly reflects the beauty of Chinese culture.

Pricing: $28-$128; yes it's pricey, but you are combing a celebration of Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day.

2.VALENTINE'S DAY AT ARYA RESTAURANT

Where/When: , 19930 Stevens Creek Blvd., Sunday and Monday (Valentine's Day) from 5 p.m., Reservations suggested.

Why go: Celebrate Valentines Day with the perfect romantic evening at Arya Global Cuisine. Seatings are availabl  Sunday and Monday. The evening will begin with a special performance by the famous Italian tenor, Pasquale Esposito and will feature a special four-course dinner to delight you and your loved one.

Pricing: $59-$69 a person

3.  De Anza College Fujitsu Planetarium Laser Show

Where/When: , 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., (Fujitsu Planetarium) Saturday, 9 and 10 p.m. 

Why Go: Here's something different to do on a Saturday night! See an astronomy or a laser show at the De Anza College Fujitsu Planetarium. There are two laser shows; at 9 p.m.; at 10 p.m. see a show to the music of Pink Floyd.

Purchase tickets at the Planetarium box office the day of the show. Tickets will be available at the door to be sold first-come first-serve. Box office opens at 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Or you can purchase tickets online. 

Pricing: $9 per ticket

Laser Light Show Ticket Admission: $9 per ticket.

4. SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY PRESENTS TOM KOOPMAN

Where/When , 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Thursday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: San Francisco Symphony Presents Ton Koopman conducting Bach and Schubert. Koopman is a world-renowned conductor and Bach specialist. Hearing him conduct the San Francisco Symphony will be a real treat, especially the Bach and Schubert pieces that will be played.

Pricing: $52-$71.

5.  Friends of the Library Book Sale

Where/When 10800 Torre Ave., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. 

Why Go:  To support your local library, of course, and to take home some good books and CDs.

Pricing: Free

  • Days: Saturday-Sunday 
  • Time: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Friends raises money for library projects by reselling donated items such as books and CDs. Donations need to be in good condition, and magazines are not accepted. Donations may be dropped off any time in the donation drop on the outside library wall alongside the library book return drops.

While the library is open, donations can be deposited in the donation bins on the right side of the lobby. Ask at the service desk, if you want a tax receipt. Tax receipts only show the number of bags/boxes of books donated.
