Get Out in Cupertino: Karaoke, High School Football and More

Monta Vista High football returns, the weekly farmer's market and weekend fun for the kids at Palo Alto Junior Museum.

Where/When: Fremont High School, 1279 Sunnyvale Saratoga Rd., Sunnyvale. Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: The Monta Vista High-Cupertino football team opens the 2011 season this Friday against Overfelt High-San Jose in Sunnyvale. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Fremont High in Sunnyvale. The Madators finished the 2010 season with a 4-5-1 record overall and a 3-3 record in league play.

Where/When: , 1451 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto. Weekly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: With "Gizmos and Gadgets,'' kids can explore simple machines and see how they make hard work easier. Lift up someone bigger than you or test your strength in this hands-on exhibit. Kids can also check out the two newest members to the zoo, a pair of baby swell sharks and leopard sharks that makeup quite a foursome in the 500-gallon tank on site.

Where/When: Sears Parking Lot at Vallco Shopping Center, Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Why Go: A weekly event, the outdoor market atmosphere only gets better in the summertime. Beat the afternoon heat and do some shopping of the wide array of vendors that sell everything from beets to flowers.

Sense and Sensibility

Where/When: TheatreWorks, , 500 Castro St., Mountain View. Thursday and Friday night at 8 p.m. Saturday showtimes at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Why Go: Based on the classic Jane Austen novel, the tale of two sisters and their wild journey through life, love and everything in between begins this week in Mountain View. The period-piece is a history lesson, comedy and drama all rolled into one. 

Pricing: $49 adults, $39 seniors, $29 full-time students. 

Where/When: 19990 Homestead Rd., Cupertino. Saturday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: Release your inner rock star, bring a bunch of friends, and rock out at Gamba Karaoke this holiday weekend in Cupertino.
