Good Sam Church to Gay Community: Welcome!
This opinion piece submitted by The Good Samaritan United Methodist Church Council openly welcomes members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans-gender, and questioning community.
We have prayerfully studied both the Biblical references to sexual immorality and fidelity, and the notion of our creation by God, in light of the modern scientific understanding of sexual orientation and our faith-experience with friends, family and committed Christians in the LGBTQ community.
Accordingly, we find it urgently necessary to include these healthy and loving people in the full life of the church. Doing less often does real harm, and distracts us from the great commandments to love God and our neighbor (Luke 10:24-37).
This distraction became acute when language forbidding full LGBTQ inclusion in the church was retained on May 2, 2012 by the General Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Let us re-purpose the energy sunk in recrimination and debate to reconciling ourselves and our communities to Jesus’ example.
We, The Good Samaritan United Methodist Church Council, intend to do this, even to the point of disobedience.
