Thursday would have marked the 32nd birthday of Polly Klaas, who was kidnapped from her Petaluma home and murdered 20 years ago.
The KlaasKids Foundation, established in her memory to fight crimes against children, will announce a technology-based child safety agenda at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Find Sierra Search Center.
Polly’s father and KlaasKids founder Marc Klaas will attend, along with Sierra LaMar’s father Steve LaMar, slain student Michelle Le’s cousin Krystine Dinh, child kidnap victim Midsi Sanchez, and uncle of Xiana Fairchild, Danny Domingo.
“My Polly was kidnapped in 1993. It's been 20-years,” said Marc Klaas in a news release. “We can think of no better way to commemorate her memory than to provide America’s young families with child safety solutions that reflect the challenges faced by children in this era of advanced technology.”
The foundation will introduce a revamped child safety website that lays out technology tools to fight predators.
They include Cocoon For KlaasKids, which will provide a free online tool to protect children from predators and abusive marketers and Polly’s Guardian Angel, the nation's first parent-initiated missing child smartphone alert application, according to Klaas.
The foundation will also launch the Klaas Family Housing Fund, a program to assist the families of missing children with housing expenses by partnering with Tracy McLaughlin, an owner of Pacific Union International/Christie's International Real Estate.
