Patch Picks: Classes and Camps for Kids

Bring out the Martha Stewart in your kid with a baking class or harness the problem-solving potential in LEGO building session.

There are a variety of and classes offered by the Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department year-round. We've highlighted some here for you, and unless otherwise noted, they take place at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Rd.

A to Z My Parent and Me

Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 21 to Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Enjoy some time with your child and socialize with other parents and children. One parent or adult must accompany each registered child to class.

Baking Fun & Favorite Recipes with Heidi Merry

Starting April 9, May 7, or June 18, from noon to 2 p.m. each day.

Baking classes with Heidi Merry offer an assortment of both classic and creative recipes and techniques. Bake, frost and prepare colorful bakeshop treats. Classes include a course instruction booklet and apron.

Per session cost is $25 for residents; $30 for non-residents.

Playgrounds

Monday through Friday from 1-5:30 p.m. from June 20 through Aug. 12.

Playgrounds is a city-subsidized program for kids 7 to 12 years old at one of the following locations: Creekside Park, Portal Park, Memorial Park, or Blackberry Farm.

Pre-register at Quinlan Community Center.

Piano & Keyboard

Held at various times and days from April 4 to June 11. Check with the Parks and Recreation Department for details.

Basic piano skills, reading music and theory are taught as well as rhythm and ear training. Skill testing after each completed session. Access to a piano or keyboard is essential for progress. For ages 6-12 years old.

Basic Engineering Skills with LEGO

Mondays from 3-4 p.m. or 4:30-5:30 p.m. over three sessions: March 7 through 28, April 4 through May 2, and May 9 through June 6.

Instructed by Wizkids Tech. Our technology dependent world demands that students are comfortable with technology by the time they graduate from high school. Familiarizing young children with these skills provides them with confidence to solve problems. For ages 5-10.
