Preserve Your Memories of Cupertino Past on Video for History

The Silicon Valley Stories Video History Project seeks people who want to share their memories of the area. Participants will receive a DVD copy of their taped interview. Interviews will be conducted on April 7.

The Silicon Valley Stories Video History Project has a way for Cupertinians to preserve their personal history with the city for generations to come by telling their stories in video interviews on April 7 at the Quinlan Community Center.

“The interviews can become part of the family legacy as well,” says Bev Lenihan, board member of the Cupertino Library Foundation.

The goal of the project is to capture and preserve memories of Cupertino’s past in an audio-visual format.

Lenihan explains there are hard assets such as newspaper clippings, photos and other artifacts from the city’s past, but there isn’t anything in video format.

“This will help us have this time in history. It’s an ongoing kind of project that can continue as generations run forward,” Lenihan says.

Interviews, which will be filmed by CreaTV, will last about 20 minutes each with the interviewee prompted by a list of questions such as “How long have you lived here?” and “What stands out in your mind about Cupertino?”

Each participant will receive a DVD copy of their own interview that could be shared with family and friends.

A compilation of all the interviews will be kept at the Cupertino Historical Society and used for educational, informational and entertainment purposes.

Reservations for interviews, which will be conducted from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 7, are now being accepted through http://www.sccl.org/node/506946.

The Silicon Valley Stories Video History Project is made possible by the Santa Clara Valley History Collaborative, consisting of the Cupertino Library, the Cupertino Library Foundation, the Cupertino Historical Society and the California History Center at De Anza College.
