‘Runners for Boston’ fundraiser set

Local runners and walkers are invited to follow Stevens Creek Trail on Monday to raise money for Boston bombing victims.

Cupertino area runners and walkers will have a chance to help raise funds for people affected by this week’s bombing at the Boston Marathon in a “Runners for Boston” fun/run walk set for Monday, April 22.

The event is part of a nationwide effort by local running stores to raise money for One Fund Boston, a charity that the Boston Athletic Association has recommended as the best way to help the people most affected by Monday's events. The run will take place along Stevens Creek Trail starting at 6:30 p.m.

During the run, participants are encouraged to wear past or current Boston Marathon gear or the Boston Marathon’s iconic blue and yellow, but any gear is welcome.

The local host is Fitgeek Sports, a Cupertino running store which also is in the process of creating a limited number of "Runners for Boston" t-shirts. Although the t-shirts will not be ready in time for the run, the store expects to have them ready for sale by the end of April. The entire $20 cost of each shirt will go to One Fund Boston.

Participants should gather a few minutes before the 6:30 p.m. start time at 177 E. El Camino Real in Mountain View. Look for the gathering in the Burger King parking area.
