Saturday is Gilbert Wong's Turn to Slip on the Pink

Councilmember Gilbert Wong has agreed to join Team Never Give Up on their training walk Saturday. Everyone else is invited, too, to show their support for breast cancer awareness.

The fourth city official sure looks pretty in pink with the Cupertino walkers, wouldn’t you agree?

“One more councilman to go,” said Alysa Sakkas.

And that fifth councimember is Gilbert Wong who will join the walkers on Saturday.

Four of the five city councilmembers already joined Sakkas and other members of Team Never Give Up, a group of women training for a three-day Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure in Sand Diego later this month.

Never Give Up has been inviting the community to join them for all or part of their training walks—and they are still encouraging people to join them.

First Mayor Mark Santoro joined the team on a five-high-school walk wearing a t-shirt with pink flamingoes on it. Next Councilmember Rod Sinks came out blazing in a pink t-shirt. Councilmember Orrin Mahoney showed his support one day sans pink and finally Councilmember Barry Chang joined the team on Friday looking fine in a pink dress shirt.

It’s your turn, Gilbert!

Anyone interested in joining the group for all or part of the walk should meet them at the Starbucks at Stevens Creek and De Anza Boulevards at 7:30 a.m.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
