Cupertino High School Student Strides Quickly in Campbell Run

The event, which included a 3K walk had both the young and young at heart out on the community track early Saturday morning.

Sarthak Grover was first to cross the finish line—and make it look easy—of the in Campbell on Saturday.

Multi-colored balloons marked the end of a 3K walk/run along the  track where the Cupertino High School student participated in the family event.

Sarthak said he learned of the event, which was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s national Let’s Move! Program, on Facebook.

Both avid runners and families participated in the city of Campbell’s efforts to get residents off the couch and outdoors to combat obesity. The city’s Recreation and Community Services Department hosted the event and 175 residents pre-registered for the event, Campbell Recreation Director Cynthia Bojorquez said.

"We got lots of comments about how great the 'I heart Campbell' T-shirts were on everyone and folks wanting to know where to purchase," Bojorquez said of the most commonly heard thing from attendees that morning. The shirts can be purchased at the recreation department's offices in the Campbell Community Center.

Along with the 3K portion of the morning, residents were able to check out first hand all that the Community Center has to offer. Spinning, music and yoga booths offered a chance to try out different venues.

Did you miss last year's event? .

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
