Glenn W. Hoffmann Awards seek programs that increase student success.

Several local schools will be honored Wednesday for their unique programs that significantly increase student success in their region.

The Santa Clara County School Boards Association recently announced the 2011 winners of the distinguished Glenn W. Hoffmann Award, a 27-year tradition.

Evergreen School District in San Jose was the top finisher in the contest. It was named the distinguished Kristi Porter Outstanding Program Award winner for its Parent University program throughout the entire district. The honor comes with a $1,000 cash award.

The awards are given to programs within the district that actually show benefit to its student population. Applicants must provide a two-page summary of the program and must have the program fall within one of 10 categories.

Winners of the program receive a cash prize, as well as a video presentation of the program at the annual spring dinner, scheduled this year for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fiorillo’s Restaurant in Santa Clara.
