South Bay Celebrates Legalization Of Gay Marriage In California

Hundreds turn up to rally in support of the Supreme Court ruling keeping gay marriage legal in California.

Hundreds of people gathered outside San Jose City Hall Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the U.S. Supreme Court sanction of gay marriage in California.

"We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go," said Campbell Mayor Evan Low to the crowd. "Let us take this opportunity to celebrate our successes but let us also take this opportunity as a call to action. Let us not waste this energy. Let's move forward."

Rally attendees shouted, laughed and cried while couple after couple shared their personal stories.

Santa Clara residents Lisa Siegrist and Bren Haag stood up in front of the crowd and shared there story.

The two women met online five years ago.

"In the first four months here, I was diagnosed with brain tumors," Siegrist says."This lady saved my life."

She woke up early Wednesday morning to hear the Supreme Court's decision. As soon as the DOMA ruling was made, she knelt down next to her sleeping girlfriend and proposed.

"She finally said yes after the third ask," Siegrist said, smiling.
