Strike Up The Band

The Cupertino Summer Concert Series starts Thursday night.

The Cupertino Symphonic Band kicks off this season’s weekly free Summer Concert Series at Memorial Park Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The non-profit has more than 50 regular members, is conducted by Tom Narcisso and has been performing in some capacity since 1989.

Trombonist Fred Wahl says the concerts bring out families with picnics who gather around the duck pond by the ampitheatre with lawn chairs and blankets.

The tentative list the band will perform is a mixture of light classical, marches, and movie medleys--all subject to "change at the last minute," says Greg Wong, a tenor saxophonist with the band.

Some of the songs you may hear include Olympiada, Give My Regards to Broadway, Army of the Nile march, Roller Coaster, English Folk Song Suite, Star Trek Through the Generations, and more.

The band rehearses Wednesday evenings at Monta Vista High School and welcomes drop-in musicians.

Dress warmly, temperatures are expected to hover just below 50-degrees with light winds--no precipitation expected though, according to Weather.com.
