What To Do In and Around Cupertino This Weekend

It’s near the end of the work week and you’re about ready to do the weekend happy dance. What better time to look ahead and plan your weekend with fun and interesting activities.

  1. Where/When: Cupertino Square, 10123 N. Wolfe Road, Cupertino; Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sear’s parking lot.

    Why go: A chance to get your fresh summer veggies before they’re gone. Also check out a selection of fresh meats, and local food items including jams, hummus, and more.

    Price: Free.


  2. CINEMA AT SUNDOWN

    Where/When: Memorial Amphitheater, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino; Friday at 8:30 p.m.

    Why go: To see an outdoor screening of the movie “Rudy” which focuses on the true story of how a young man, Rudy Ruettiger, refuses to limit his dreams or bow to reality as he pursues his lifelong goal -- to wear the uniform, if only for one down, of the Notre Dame football team.

    Price: Free.


  3. BASIC/INTERMEDIATE PILATES MAT CLASS

    Where/When: 106 First St., Los Altos; Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

    Why go: Learn the basics of mat and reformer Pilates, and yoga. Gyrotonic instruction for students of all ages and skill levels.
    Price: $17.

  4. ‘TIME STANDS STILL’

    Where/When: TheatreWorks, Mountain View Center For The Performing Arts, 500 Castro St., Mountain View; Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 and 7 p.m. Continues through Sept. 16.

    Why go: A chance to see the regional premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies’ drama “Time Stand Still” which follows a thrill-seeking photojournalist and her foreign correspondent lover after they return from a harrowing stint covering a war.

    Price: $31 to $73

  5. WINE TASTINGS

    Where/When: Savvy Cellar, 750 W. Evelyn Ave., Mountain View; Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

    Why go: Sample four to five 90+ point wines hand-picked by the shop's sommeliers. Reservations required for eight or more people, 650-969-3958.

    Price: $16.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
