Here's Harry!

From midnight screenings with "before parties" to a soul food dinner celebration, there's a lot going on to celebrate Harry Potter's latest victory.

Ten years after its premier, the cinematic debut of the last of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series is hitting theaters Friday. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will be gracing screens big and small, near and afar. The following is a list of special Bay Area events for the much-awaited movie, ranging from 3-D or IMAX showings, to a soul food dinner get-together.

South Bay
The Tech Museum is San Jose is a proponent of both physics experiments and Hogwarts. It will be showing two screenings of Harry Potter tonight at its Hackworth IMAX Theater. The midnight showing is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the 2:30 a.m. show, so act fast! Ticket holders for both events are invited to an opening celebration that begins at 10:30 p.m.

Camera Cinemas, which has theaters in Campbell, Los Gatos, and San Jose, is offering showings of Harry Potter in both 2-D and 3-D, beginning at a special premier at midnight tonight. Tickets are $12.75 for adults, $9.75 for children and seniors, and $10.50 for students. You can purchase tickets through their website.

Several South Bay movie theaters, such as AMC Cupertino Square 16 and IMAX, are offering special IMAX showings of the movie, stretching from midnight tonight on. To find the theater closest to you, look up your location in IMAX’s website here.

You can toast to Potter’s latest victory at one of several British Pubs in the South Bay and Santa Cruz area, be it Brittania Arms in Aptos or Cupertino, in Cupertino, or The Rose and Crown Pub in Palo Alto.

Farther Afield
Looking to meet both Harry Potter fans and outdoor enthusiasts? The Bay Area Young Sierrans are hosting a movie and dinner social event from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday. First the group will gather at Scend's soul food restaurant at 3627 San Pablo Ave. in Emeryville, and then head to the nearby AMC Bay Street Theater.
