Euphrat Museum Art Auction Deemed A Success

A silent and live auction, 'Come Together for Art,' brought in a much-needed $12k to the museum located on the De Anza College campus.

The Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College got a much-needed financial leg up at its June Come Together For Art auction, which featured donated art from local artists and art collectors.

About $12,000 was raised at the silent and live auction on June 24 at the museum, which featured pieces by such local artists as Carol Malone and of Sunnyvale, as well as Qin Dynasty artwork, such as fan paintings, scrolls, and embroideries from the collection of Connie Young Yu of Los Altos Hills, who is on the executive committee of the museum’s advisory council.

“I am touched by the generosity and enormous support of the artists and community toward the Euphrat,” says , director of Euphrat Museum. “So many people expressed how important the museum’s programs are to the artists and the community.”

Other Bay Area artists who donated their work include Los Altos resident Paul Hau, Ursula O'Farrell, Cynthia Tom, Kathy Fujii-Oka, Nancy Hom—a consultant to the museum who also helped organize the event—and others.

Like other arts and educational institutions the sour economy is hitting Euphrat in the funding gut and it needs all the help it can get, Rindfleisch says.

Among its programming, Euphrat provides art exhibitions of emerging and established artists, arts education both at the museum and in the surrounding communities, creates public art projects with elementary and middle school students who work together with Euphrat teachers and student interns.
