California Reads: Two Movie Screenings at Cupertino Library

On May 5, Cupertino Library will show Unfinished Business. In the spring of 1942, without a hearing or trial, more than 110,000 American citizens of Japanese ancestry were evacuated from Western States and interned under Executive Order 9066--the Wartime Relocation Act.

Unfinished Business tells the story of three courageous people, Gorden Hirabayashi, Fred Korematsu, and Minoru Yasui, who resisted this order and were convicted and imprisoned for doing so.

On May 19th, we will show Return to the Valley. At the conclusion of World War II, 120,000 men, women and children of Japanese ancestry were released after three years of imprisonment in internment camps. Each was given just $25 and a train ticket home. This poignant documentary tells their stories of struggle, hardship and triumph as they rebuilt their lives.
