Event Preview: What to Expect at Saratoga's "Bells of India"

Saratoga not-for-profit organization IAM Ministries brings attendees a taste of India in a salon-style event while displaying the talents of those whom the organization has aided.

For those looking for a unique blend of culture and entrepreneurship, try heading over to IAM Ministries’ Bells of India: An Experience in Indian Exotica, this Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the IAM Ministries House in Saratoga (address provided upon reservation.)

For a suggested donation of $15 per person and $25 per couple, the event promises food, wine, entertainment and a bazaar of goods, ranging from textiles to paintings to jewelry. The entertainment includes traditional Indian music and renowned Odissi dancer Revital Carroll, who co-owns a yoga studio in Arizona with her husband.

However, despite the wine and finger food, this event is not your average cocktail party. The donations go toward IAM Ministries’ programs towards rehabilitating the impoverished and at-risk in order to attain a smooth transition back into society. The money raised will go towards funding the Ministries’ programs, which include metabolic cleansing, yoga and aqua fitness.

Says Suzanna Cody, 71, a therapist at IAM Ministries, “To assist those in poverty, we provide funding and a sharing of healthy values that will help the individual or group accept their situation and learn beneficial tools to move outside their situation.”

The program uses their health and wellness programs and classes, as well as free therapy sessions, to urge those who have encountered difficulties, whether it be emotional or financial, to re-enter society and, as Cody states, “express their personal authenticity and unique vocation after which they may serve others in the community through their work and volunteerism.”

Bells of India, therefore, is designed as a showcase through which those whom the program has aided can come together and display the fruits of their labor, be it through art, math or science.

“Bells of India celebrates the arts and sciences of varied Indian cultures through dance, music and arts, and bringing enlightened understand and appreciation to those of different backgrounds,” Cody said.

Some of the wares on display range from artwork to intricately decorated eggs, representing a wide range of talents displayed by those whose lives have been changed by IAM Ministries.

“Through Bells of India, we want to teach people how to love and be loved,” said Cody. “Those who come to the event will be able to meet others, engage in a heartfelt discussion, and immerse themselves in the art around.”
