Get Out in Cupertino: A Cooking Class, Concert, Candy, Festivals and a Summer Camp for Grown-Ups!

Learn to make summer vegetable tarts, go to an outdoor concert in town, take your children to an international candy tasting event, travel to two festivals in neighboring towns and, for those 'seniors' who want to plan ahead, attend a summer camp for grow

Why Go:  Wouldn't you like to learn how to make something really different and really delicious with those vegetables from the farmers market or your own backyard? Cookbook author and international chef Suzanne will show you what to do. The menu will include buttermilk leek galette, fresh garden green vegetable tart in almond crust with pesto, and mixed fennel salad tart in Mediterranean herb crust.

Where/When: , Stevens Creek Boulevard and Mary Avenue, Thursday, 6:30-8 p.m.

Why Go:  For a good part of the summer on Thursday nights, the place to be will be Memorial Park. Free outdoor concerts in the park make for a nice family time, and to make it even more of an occasion, bring along a picnic supper. This Thursday the music will be provided by Dub FX, which performs reggae music with a stylistic blend.

Where/When: Cupertino Community Hall, next door to , 10350 Torre Ave., Saturday, 2-3 p.m.

Why Go: If your teen has a sweet tooth, you can see how far it takes you for an international taste. And you can also see how much you know about what's popular in the world of sweets internationally. The library will provide a variety of sweets from all over the globe and teens can taste them and guess where they are from.

Where/When: 216 Main St., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free shuttles at Los Altos High School, or check out the Greentown Los Altos bike valet program for those who pedal to the festival. 

Why Go: This well-known event is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the Bay Area, drawing arts and craftspeople from a dozen states. Select vintages of wine by the glass to sample from local wineries, eat at the food booths and listen to music from three stages. This mid-summer event is kid-friendly. If you are bringing the grandkids with you, there will be plenty for children, too, in the Family Fun Zone.

Where/When: 777 Embarcadero Rd., Palo Alto, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Why Go: We know, it may be tough to decide which festival to attend, but fortunately, both festivals go all weekend. And this celebration of clay and glass art shouldn't be missed. This is one of the largest shows of its kind, and it is expected that more than 150 artists will participate.

AND FOR SENIORS WHO WANT TO PLAN AHEAD A BIT:

Where/When: 850 Webster St., Palo Alto (Channing House) July 26, 27 and 28; 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Classes and sessions are by Avenidas.

Why Go: We are telling you about this a bit early, but spots are bound to fill up for this summer camp for grown-ups. Why should just kids get to have fun? Three days of tai chi, Zumba, yoga and lectures for mind and body—and a chance to do this with your friends or make new friends.
