Start off at the Farmer's Market for your weekend BBQ, then consider the Moody Blues at the Mountain Winery.

Why Go: Get fresh and organic produce and meats and a variety of other local items lke jams and hummus made locally. A fun place to do food shopping and healthy, too!

Pricing: Free 

Where/When: Gamba Karaoke, 19990 Homestead Rd. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Get together with a group of friends and sing your heart out! Belt it out and have a good time.

Pricing: $4.99 per person for groups of six or less. Other rates available for larger groups.

Where/When: , 12345 S El Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m.

Why Go: George M. Cohan wrote this play, so it's sure to be a winner. It's a mystery-romance about a stormy night in a taven. Who hasn't had one of those?  The play is a presentation of The Foothill College Theatre Arts Department. 

Pricing: $8 to $16

Where/When: , 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos, Friday, Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: George and Charlotte Hay are touring the backwaters in 1953 when they end up involved in a case of mistaken identities and crazy adventures. Theater within the theater. You are sure to enjoy.

Pricing: $26 to $32

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday; The Mountain Winery, 14831 Pierce Rd., Saratoga

Why Go:  Friday night is an opportunity to get reacquainted or just plain acquainted with the music of the 1960s and 1970s group, The Moody Blues. If you are lucky, they will perform their never-to-be-forgotten song, "Nights in White Satin" and other pieces from their 1967 album "Days of Future Passed."

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
