Cupertino is among 260 theaters across the country to simulcast on Monday a stage-to-cinema presentation of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor from London’s famous Globe Theatre.

The production, scheduled to show at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at AMC Cupertino Square, is part of a four-part series of classical Shakespeare titles performed last year at the internationally renowned Globe Theatre in London.

The Merry Wives of Windsor is a comedy by William Shakespeare believed to be written prior to 1597, but not produced until 1604. Directed by Christopher Luscombe, starring Christopher Benjamin as Sir John Falstaff, Serena Evans as Meg Page and Sarah Woodward as Alice Ford, it is a comedic tale of the pursuit of romance, jealousy and revenge.

The original Globe Theatre, an open-roof wood-and-thatch construction built in 1599, was destroyed by a fire in 1613. A modern-day reconstruction opened in 1997 about 200 yards from the original site known as Shakespeare’s theatrical home.
