A Pink Flamingo Honors Breast Cancer Survivor

Flocking a yard with flamingos is becoming a common practice around the country to honor those who are struck with cancer.

Just a little over a year ago somebody paid to get a pink flamingo off of their lawn and onto a Cupertino lawn. It wasn’t a mean prank, it was recognition and a gesture of support for the cancer survivor who lives there.

"I can’t express how honored and touched I was to learn this story when Buttons' journey ended on my front lawn," said the homeowner, who is a cancer survivor, when she received Buttons, the pink flamingo.

Donations to the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure were raised in the homeowner’s name—who has asked to not be named—and it was understood that she’d have to pay to get Buttons off her lawn. But she doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to remove the kitschy guy.

“I still have Buttons. He's actually still in my front yard, though I think I will move him to the back yard. He's a keeper!” she said recently.
