Homestead Square: Open For Business, Really!

There's a store (or two) behind that mountain of rubble.

Drive down Homestead Road near McClellan Road and a huge mountain of concrete chunks and debris catches your eye. It looks like someone just leveled a whole shopping center. Well, yes, most of it.

Great Clips, Michael's, and FedEx would like you to know they're still there at Homestead Square shopping center.

The wire fencing surrounding the parking lot and the great hunks of concrete you see looming over everything? Pay no mind, the road is clear, and there's still plenty of parking lot left.

"It hasn't been too bad yet," said Christine Altamirano, asistant manager and stylist at Great Clips, who has watched the demolition with heavy machinery since March.

"The foreman of the crew comes in to get his hair cut now."

That's one new customer.

By year's end, the center will be finished, including the anchor tenant, which she has heard will be "a super Safeway."

"We are excited to see who else will move in," she said.

In the meantime, Fed Ex's regular customers seem to help keep customers finding the store,  which has some balloons jauntily attached to a sandwich board sign, urging you to just walk in and get a hair cut.
