DSA/CPOA to Staff Info Booth at Tet Festival in San Jose Feb. 1 and 2

Tet Festival celebrants with questions about traffic laws, landlord-tenant relations, how to report crimes or who just want to know about law enforcement in general are invited to stop by the booth of the combined county Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and Correctional Peace Officers’ Association.

The event is set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1 and 2, at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds at 344 Tully Road in San Jose. It celebrates the Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

In its 32 years of operation, it has drawn between 30,000 and 40,000 people every year, according to The-Vu Nguyen, a policy aide to the office of county Supervisor Dave Cortese.

The DSA/CPOA booth is part of the Community Resources Fair at the festival. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other community groups will participate.

“We have brochures, fact sheets and experts right at our booth,” said DSA president Don Morrissey. “Diversity is the strength and pride of this county, and we’re honored to help kick off the Year of the Horse.” The DSA also has prizes for people who can answer quizzes.

CPOA president Lance Scimeca said his organization will also have booths at a Sunday, Feb. 2, Tet event in San Jose’s Vietnam Town and at the next Sunday’s event at Yerba Buena High School.

“San Jose boasts the largest Vietnamese-American population in the United States,” he remarks. “It is important for us to reach out to the community we serve and foster better and stronger relationships.”
