California Lottery Jackpot Hits Half Billion Dollars

There were nine tickets that had five winning numbers but no one had five plus the mega number.

The California Lottery Mega-Millions game has a half billion-dollar jackpot for Friday night’s draw. Let that roll around on your tongue for a while. Half a billion dollars. $500 million. A whole lotta cash. Any way you phrase it, if you win the jackpot you better learn how to say “new tax bracket”.

The big jackpot could mean instant financial security for some lucky person and a chance at some serious philanthropy. If a Cupertino citizen wins the jackpot Friday, what would you like that person to do for Cupertino?

Put your answer in the comments. Tomorrow Cupertino Patch will publish a poll to try and determine readers' favorite philanthropic idea for a potential lottery winner living in Cupertino.

Find out what's happening in Cupertinowith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Spoiler alert: One of the poll options will be: Set up a trust fund to fully fund art and music programs in all Cupertino schools and pre-schools.
