Guess Where I Was When I Took This Photo?

How well do you know Cupertino? Can you tell by the image in the photo where I was standing when I took the picture?

I don't give up easily. I'm a little stubborn, too. I also love playing games so I'm giving this Guess Where I Was When I Took This Photo thing another try, even though some of you Cupertino Patch readers seem to know the city like the back of your hand.

A little background for those of you who are new to this game. I stand somewhere in Cupertino (or on its border) and take a picture of something that I think is not-so-recognizable to challenge readers on how well they know their city.

Every city has iconic buildings or signs that are immediately recognizable, and every city also has those ordinary looking buildings and landscapes. It's those every day scenes that I try to capture and use to stump you.

Alas, I have yet to conquer and instead have been taunted by a few who must have placed tracking devices on my car and know every inch of every mile I've traveled in Cupertino. (Yes I mean you, Bob M.)

Fool that I may be, I try again to be the victor of my own game: Guess Where I Was When I Took This Photo?

Aha! There are no guesses on this one. Either Bob M is out scouring the city looking for this spot or I have finally fooled him and the rest of you!

It almost looks like a playground in the backyard of a house...

Good guess, but that's not it Tyler.

looks like Anne may have finally stumped some of you...not that I have any clue where this is :)

Maybe an apartment building bordering a park?

No, but you're getting warmer.

Winchester house!
Tyler Vergho March 26, 2012 at 01:22 AM
Isn't that in San Jose?
Anne Ernst (Editor) March 26, 2012 at 06:45 PM
Yes Tyler, Winchester House IS in San Jose...and I don't think it has a swingset or slide, though you just never know what you'll find there!

Anne, just got my first chance to see your new challenge, very good! I don't recognize it right off but from looking at the photo I would say we are looking for a commercial building (commercial in design, two stories, rail fencing, and outside stairs have landing, has what appears to be sprinkler system under balcony), has either a day care or at least a kid play area and seems to be backed up to a berm (elevation in ivy shows under balcony and stairs past trees). So, we can narrow our search to 2 story commercial buildings in areas that are not flat. Will keep looking.

Village Little Preschool Center at Abundant Life Assembly of God! That's the name.
Bob M March 27, 2012 at 04:17 PM
Good catch Mason! To take that shot Anne must have been standing in the Church parking lot (probably right next to the Pastor's reserved spot). She is getting sneaky.
Anne Ernst (Editor) March 27, 2012 at 05:17 PM
Mason: how did you figure that out?!!! Bob M: Yes, I have to be sneaky to pull anything over on you! And the Pastor wasn't in that day so I stood IN his spot.
Bob M March 27, 2012 at 05:31 PM
"..so I stood IN his spot." Careful Anne, there may be a penace for that. Would not want you to jeopardize your hereafter just to fool us. =)

When I saw the picture when you posted it I knew I recognized it but couldn't put my finger on it. So I spent about an hour looking at the aerial satellite maps of Cupertino on Google and finally gave up (the playground doesn't exist on Google maps right now I found out). So me and my wife went to Whole Foods yesterday and where the shopping carts were I noticed the blue triangle roof and yellow slide with the tree next to a two story structure and pointed and yelled out loud "THERE IT IS!" Of course my wife thought I was nuts but then again she knows how i am when it comes to things I know i've seen but can't figure it out. I'm like Columbo, it bothers me haha. Forgive the typos in my first response but typing on my wife's tiny phone while walking through Whole Foods while geeking out is not a good combo haha.

Bob M: I'm so angelic that I need not worry about jeopardizing my place in the hereafter. <cough, hack> Mason: I wish I could have been in the Whole Food parking lot to see your outburst. We're a Columbo household, too. (Ahh, just one more thing...)

Yeah it was kind of funny. Maybe we can pull the security tapes and post them.
