Out Of This World iPhone

An historic moment will see the first iPhone launched into space Friday.

Cupertino, get ready for your launch into space shuttle history.

At least one iPhone, a proud homegrown Cupertino product—and the first iPhone aboard a shuttle—is expected to launch into space on the Atlantis’ STS-135 mission, according to NASA, on Friday.

The iPhone is equipped with an app, called SpaceLab for iOS, created by Odyssey Space Research, a Houston company, to help astronauts track scientific results.

The hope is that an updated SpaceLab will provide navigation in the future.

The iPhone won't get lonely on the flight—accompanying it will be other items such as various American flags and NASCAR memorabiia.
