Power Outage in Cupertino

More than 1,400 PG&E custoners lost power shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday

Power went out in a portion of Cupertino Sunday night shortly after 10 p.m. due to a transformer that failed, a Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman said.

About 1,400 customers were affected by the outage that occurred at 10:13 p.m.  in an area of western Cupertino that included areas south of I-280 to Bollinger Avenue and along Mary Ave. Portions of the city east of Foothill Expressway, and Bubb Road, including McClellan Road, Lindy Lane and Linda Vista Circle were all impacted.

A small section of Sunnyvale experienced a flicker of an outage earlier in the evening but it was unlikely that was related to the Cupertino outage. Additionally, a segment of central San Jose was impacted by a separate outage, which is also considered unrelated to Cupertino's outage.

No cause for the transformer failure has been determined yet, and no estimation of power restoration was announced, but a crew was onsite and working on the failed equipment.
