Transit of Venus Photos From Cupertino

Mason McCarty, Cupertino Patch's very own cartoonist, is also an astronomy enthusiast. He shares his photos with us.

Telescopes were barely gathering dust since last month's annular eclipse of the sun when this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence of drew gobs of attention.

Cupertino's Mason McCarty set his telescoping sites on the sun Tuesday and snapped the attached photos.

"Amazing is all I have to say!" McCarty said.

If you watched Venus move across the sun, tell us where you were and what you thought. If you also took photos, please upload them here so we can all see.

------------------------------

Please also take a moment to have some fun with McCarty's other talent—drawing. He's our resident cartoonist and has a comic strip created just for Cupertino Patch.

Look for his character in our weekend fun while we play two weekly games: and  Here's a clue, revisit some of the previously run games and you'll find Arnie lurking about.

We're looking for people to join us and become a , too. C'mon, it's fun!

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
