Desiring to serve our community West Valley Presbyterian Church has launched a free after school program for Middle School Students. The "Crash Zone" meets three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, from 3 to 5:30PM.
Our goal is to provide childcare for all interested families, but we are particularly aware of the needs of families who have found themselves in career and personal transition. Childcare can be expensive and these families are often the most in need of this service. Our hope is that this free program will provide relief to these families, even if only reducing their childcare cost through other programs to two days a week.
Safety and Flexibility
Our childcare workers have been background checked by the church, and have years of experience. We have a flexible check in system that allows for students to participate on a drop-in basis while still accounting for their whereabouts.
At registration families indicate what days their child will be attending or if their child will attend on a drop in basis. If we are expecting a child and they do not show up by a designated time we will call the child and/or their parents. A child can be dropped off with a simple e-mail to the Program Director by noon of that day.
Students can be released at a designated time to walk or bike home with prior communication. The Program Director will call or text to notify the parent that their child has been released and at what time so that parents know when to expect their child to be home. While at Crash Zone students can secure their bicycles at a bike rack on the church campus.
Location
We are located next to Hyde Middle School at the corner of Bollinger and Miller/Wolfe across from the Safeway and Starbucks.
Program Structure
We provide time for study and time for fun. Our adult volunteers are happy to assist students in writing essays, solving math problems or studying for a test. When students have accomplished their homework we play board games, dodge ball, charades, and video games.
Parents are encouraged to e-mail the program director with a list of assignments if their child needs extra accountability.
