Benefiting World Service Projects in China, India, Thailand, Africa and Latin America

The diversity of Cupertino has brought together once again a group of residents and fans of international intrigue and generosity.  Gazing around this event you have the distinct feeling you have slipped back in time to the summer ball in some small island palace in the South Seas where the Coloney's Governor, played by Sean Connery, is about to make a speech from the balcony. Every year now for decades the Rotary Club of Cupertino has held this gala to raise money for international projects.  Just this last Saturday evening, many transplants living in and around Cupertino who are from India, China, Sri Lanka, and as far away as Morro Bay, California (my home town) gather to talk politics, golf, construction, the weather, and participate in other poolside chatter and spead their wealth to benefit others less fortunate. The event is also supported by Apple, PG&E, Recology, Armstrong Financial Planning and Acorn Campus Ventures. Checks totaling over $100,000 for international projects were handed out to local community leaders for Indian, Chinese and African children and adults who would not otherwise have the opportunity for education and medical care. These projects build libraries, give sight to the blind, deliver clean water and reduce burns from open fire cooking.  How do we know these projects are actually carried out as planned?  Cupertino Rotarians, at their own personal expense as well as safety, travel to these far away places to participate, audit and report back to the Club of their success.Think about it; is Rotary what is missing in your life to fulfill the dream of helping others through "Service Above Self?"
