Week Ahead: Employee Agreements, General Plan, Shakespeare, Dash of Hope

Cupertino's doings and deadlines you need to know for the week of July 15 to 21.



MONDAY

Dash of Hope 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk - There's still time to register for Sunday's annual benefit for West Valley Community Services' childhood hunger services. The USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses are beautiful in Los Gatos' Vasona Park, and afterwards, the Dash offers great finish-line festivities including food, awards, and music. Participants can either download this Flyer, and mail in with entry fee, or by registering online at Active.com.

Ages 13 & over - $30 prior to July 20 - $40 thereafter. 10K Run: Ages 12 & under - $30 prior to July 20, $40 - thereafter.  Ages 13 and over - $35 prior to July 20 - $45 thereafter.

TUESDAY

City Council Special Meeting - 5:30 p.m., Community Hall Council Chamber. The council has a raft of items on its agenda, from new tentative contracts with three city unions to two public hearings. One is on modifications to the Saich Way Station project on Stevens Creek Boulevard that the council required the developer to make. The other is over proposed fees for weed abatement. The council is also scheduled to vote on an ordinance governing obstruction of public right-of-way.This is the last council meeting before Aug. 20. The Aug. 6 meeting has been cancelled.

THURSDAY

General Plan Amendment Community Workshop - 6 to 8:30 p.m. Community Hall, 10350 Torre Avenue, Cupertino. The first in a series of workshops offered so the public can weigh in on land use and functions in the city of Cupertino. This includes the area containing the Vallco property.

Cinema At Sundown - 8:30 p.m., Blackberry Farm. Dolphin Tale is the featured film for Cupertino's free movie night that runs through Aug. 30. Bring a blanket and arrive early. Seating is first-come, first-served. The 2012 Warner Bros. film is directed by Charles Martin Smith, rated PG, with 119 minutes running time. After Aug. 1, movie night switches to Friday nights at Memorial Park.

SATURDAY

Free Shakespeare in the Park - 7:30 to 9:10 p.m. The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival returns to Memorial Park Amphitheater in Cupertino and celebrates its 31st season with Macbeth, directed by Kenneth Kelleher. Generally regarded as one of the Bard’s major tragedies (along with Hamlet, Othello, and King Lear), this is the first time SF Shakes has produced it for Free Shakespeare in the Park. The 100-minute play is for its suspenseful plot and thrilling scenes of witchcraft and swordplay. No intermission. Traveling around the Bay Area? SUNDAY

Dash of Hope 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk, takes place on July 21, in the beautiful Vasona Park, located at 333 Blossom Hill Rd., in Los Gatos. Check in and race-day registration will begin 7:30 a.m., followed by both course races starting at 8:30 a.m.
