Shashi Hotel on De Anza is Underway and Under Ground

The basement and parking garage of Cupertino's newest hotel are in progress.

That big hole in the ground at N. De Anza Boulevard and Alves Drive belongs to what will become a high-end luxury hotel in about 18 months. Right now, it’s just dirt, but that will eventually become the hotel basement and parking garage.

The hotel was slated to be a Hyatt Hotel, but an anonymous source says it may be run under the Starwood Hotel chain’s Aloft Hotels brand, which uses the catch line, “style for a steal.”

Concrete for the basement and parking area will most like be poured in the next week or two, one worker said.

The hotel is planned for 90,000 square feet with 150 guest rooms and suites, 6,000 square feet of high-tech conference space, an executive board room, fitness center, pool, sauna, and spa.

Hi Bernie, There was a gas station right on De Anza and then behind it was either condos or offices (already I can't recall either.) I love your "What it Was" idea. I'm going to look into getting some photos from the Cupertino History Museum to work with—and of course anyone out there with their own photos can either share them on the site themselves or send them to me to post!

I just posted the Google Map sat view of the old De Anza Car Incorporated (gas station). Now its a hole on street view.

But if you change the streel level view from De Anza to Alves Drive the station magically reappears. Or, if you back out one or two steps from street level is shows the old station, then further out it dissapears again. Some views get updated more than others.

And if you zoom in you can see a bicyclist wearing a red jacket or sweater riding by...wouldn't it be fun to be able to identify that person?
