Homestead Women's Soccer Optimistic as Season Kicks Off

The Homestead Mustangs Varsity girls soccer team may be the surprise team in SCVAL this season. A new coach, a solid core of upperclassman and a slew of young talent has the team in position to make some noise in 2013-14.

The Mustangs have a solid returning core of seniors with Center Midfielder Emma Tyranauer, Goalie Dani Ortiz and Defender Bella Stovoli.  Their Junior class of, Defender Maylis Bastruk, Center Midfielder Sophia Stavoli, and Goalie Casey Dryden will add to their upper class leadership. But it's their Sophomore and Freshmen class that has insiders thinking Homestead could be a team to contend with this year and for years to come.

In their second year on campus, Midfielder's  Cameron Bunka and Maanasa Kandanpa will give the Mustangs some pace on the channels and Center Defender Megan Lloyd will provide Homestead with a solid player on the back line in the middle of the park. Forward Alexia Soria has a nose for the goal and by seasons end may be among the top scorers in the SCVAL.
