Tainted Bagged Lettuce Recalled

Check bagged lettuce purchased from Trader Joe's and Safeway.

Some brands of bagged romaine lettuce salads are being recalled because of contamination with a strain of E. coli, according to state health department officials.

The lettuce is sold in 9-, 9.25-, 10-, 10.25- and 16-ounce bags under the labels Ready Pac, Trader Joe's, Safeway and Dining in Classic.

The affected bags, produced by Ready Pac Food Inc. have a use-by date of Nov. 18. The recall was issued after a random test found E. coli. No illnesses have been associated with the recalled product.

Consumers should discard the products or return them to the place where they were purchased. Anyone who develops symptoms of E. coli, which include abdominal cramps and diarrhea, should contact their doctor. Most people recover within a week, but children, the elderly and others may develop life-threatening complications.
