Ruth Hall Hammer, aka "Ruthe", joined her dearly departed husband, and high school sweetheart of 63 years, Tom Sr. on Jan 18.

Ruthe's at peace now after a long struggle with COPD. She was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Indianola Iowa, to Margaret and Byron Hall. Ruthe's childhood was filled with the joys of having two older sisters and life in the south central Iowa farming community of Milo.

Ruthe graduated from Indianola High and Simpson College. She's survived by son, Tom Jr., daughter-in-law Sueling, grandchildren Nick and Ellenore, sister Virginia Ott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Most of her retirement years were spent in Minnesota where she lived with Tom Sr. on the shores of Lake Minnetonka near Minneapolis, MN. After moving to California in 2009, she lived at the Sunny View Retirement Community in Cupertino.

Ruthe retired from the Minneapolis Public Schools after 20 years teaching. That followed earlier stints in Iowa in business (CPA), and teaching. After moving to Minnesota in 1957 she helped Tom Sr. run "Hammer's Hardware" in Richfield.

Ruthe was many things to many people; wife; mother; grandmother; auntie; business woman; teacher; neighbor. She touched us all and left the world a better place. We miss her. The Minnesota memorial service was Feb. 17 at the Excelsior United Methodist Church in Excelsior, MN.
