Dear Dad-In-Law: My Father's Day Wish To You

They say the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree; I think I got the best nut around.

Dear Dad-in-law:

I look at you to see what my husband will become, and I’m pleased to see what’s on the horizon.

Thank you for passing on your patience—he’ll need it with me as his wife.

Thank you for passing on your quiet intellect—it really comes in handy and I appreciate that it’s never boastful.

Thank you for passing on your love of music—music has surrounded me my whole life, and still does thanks to you and s influence.

Thank you for being a guiding light—your experience and knowledge helps us navigate day-to-day challenges.

Thank you for saying grace at family holiday dinners—I cherish the times we all sit around the table together and listen to your remembrances of thanks.

Thank you for your wit—your son got the best of that from both you and Mom-in-law and it keeps me smiling even in the tough times.

Thank you for sharing your dimples and smile with your son—you’ve still got the charm so I’m assuming so will he when he reaches your age.

Thank you for setting the example of how a man should be in life—you’re an exemplary example and I benefit it every day by living with your son.

Happy Father’s Day!

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
