Help Raise Funds for WVCS at Bitter+Sweet With Me

Buy a Motown Minty Mocha—or anything else—on Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a portion of the proceeds will go to West Valley Community Services.

Since we made the announcement last week of my new temporary job— coffee and dessert bar on Wed., Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.—we keep coming up with new ways to entice you to join us and help raise much-needed funds for West Valley Community Services.

Get ready to get funky with the Funk Brothers because while I’m barista the shop will be kickin’ out some Motown tunes in honor of my hometown, Detroit.

You see, owner Janice Chua allows her baristas to choose the music played in the store so while I’m behind the bar it’ll be the stylings of artists such as Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Four Tops, just to name a few.

Sticking with the Motown theme, Chua and her team came up with my signature drink—the Motown Minty Mocha. Yummy.

But that’s not all; we also added a silent auction. Some of the items you can expect to find include a coffee-themed gift basket, a West Valley Community Services t-shirt, and tickets to , which supports local businesses and WVCS.

Remember, 15 percent of the proceeds while I’m behind the bar will be donated to West Valley Community Services by Bitter+Sweet owner, Janice Chua. A member of WVCS will also be available to accept additional donations, too.

If you would like to donate an item to the silent auction please contact me at anne.ernst@patch.com, or call my cell phone at 408-218-8273.

Bitter+Sweet is located at 20560 Town Center Ln., off of De Anza Boulevard, just down the block from Amici's.

Hope to see you at Bitter+Sweet on Wednesday!

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
