What Should Go in the New Main Street?

What types of businesses would you like to see at Main Street?

The much anticipated Main Street is getting closer and closer to materializing. We would like to get your suggestions on the types of businesses you would like to see at Main Street.

I spoke with the developer and city planner to get an update. The developer expects the first retail tenant to move in early 2014. There will be a total of 130,500 square feet for retail shops, restaurants, professional services, and very likely a grocery store.

The overall theme is to create a high-quality and unique experience for the people living, working, and visiting Cupertino. They’re targeting shops and restaurants that you generally wouldn’t find at the mall. With that said, there will be some familiar names as well.

The developer describes the restaurants they’re trying to attract as high-quality, unique, best-of-breed, environmentally conscious, and healthy. They’re not only looking locally but also successful concepts from Southern California and even internationally.

For retail they’re looking for shops that sell clothing, mobile devices, home decor, antiques, children’s toys, and others. The developer understands that e-commerce has changed the retail landscape so they’re looking for stores that offer products that can’t be easily found on the web.

There will also be businesses providing professional services such as banking, financial services, title services, and so on.

Your suggestions can help the developer attract those businesses to Main Street.

The suggestions are used to help new businesses find the perfect location and also to help commercial real estate brokers attract businesses to where you want them. This gives you a voice in the businesses that open in your neighborhood and it helps local businesses succeed.
