Three lanes on southbound Interstate Highway 280 in Cupertino have reopened this afternoon after a truck hauling dirt spilled its load onto several lanes this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident near the South Wolfe Road off-ramp was reported at11:16 a.m. A Sig-alert was issued at 11:25 a.m. The alert was canceled at 1:50 p.m., according to the CHP.
The truck had pulled over on the right-hand side of the road after the incident, but three lanes were blocked by piles of dirt for two and a half hours.
The dirt-blocked lanes caused gridlock as far north as the North De Anza Boulevard exit as cars attempt to exit the freeway to avoid the lanes, according to the CHP.
