A bicyclist riding on Homestead Road Thursday morning was struck by a car and taken to the hospital with abrasions and a hurt knee, police said.
Sunnyvale Police officers responded to a call at about 7:28 a.m. to Homestead Road and Canary Drive in Sunnyvale, on the border of Cupertino, where an adult female driver of a Honda had allegedly struck a male adult bicyclist.
The car was traveling eastbound on Homestead and the bicyclist was traveling westbound. The car struck the bicycle as it was making a northbound turn on to Canary Drive, said. Sunnyvale Capt. David Verbrugge.
The right lane of westbound Homestead was closed and two cars were parked at the scene, said Patch blogger and reader Chris Zhang who drove by at about 7:35 a.m. and about it shortly after. There was a bike on the ground and someone was being carried on a stretcher into an ambulance, but he couldn’t see the condition of the person, he said.
The bicyclist was treated for abrasions and a hurt knee and taken to the hospital for further evaluation, Verbrugge said. No other information—such as if bicyclist or driver will be charged, or condition of the bicyclist—was available as the case report has not been completed, he added.
