Update: Cupertino Man, 70, Has Been Found

Ba Minh Lu left his home on Loree Avenue to take a walk. He suffers from dementia.

Updated 3:35 p.m. — A 70-year-old Cupertino man who went missing Sunday has been found, according to the San Jose Police Department.

Ba Minh Lu was located Monday afternoon about 10 miles from home in San Jose off of Monterey Road near Tully Road.

Lu is one lucky gentleman. After being out all night in the cold, he was found shoeless and trying to get into a residence, said Officer Phillip White of the San Jose Police Department.

The residents thought someone was trying to burglarize them, but fortunately Lu had identification on him so police knew he had been reported as a missing person.

He was in good condition but was taken to a hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

Bay City News Service —   Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies are looking for a 70-year-old Cupertino man suffering from dementia who was reported missing Sunday morning.

Ba Minh Lu has not been heard from since he left his home in the 18000 block of Loree Avenue at 11 a.m. Sunday to take a walk, spokesman Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said.

Lu usually goes for walks in the neighborhood with his wife, but on Sunday he began walking while his wife was in the shower, Stenderup said. His wife notified the sheriff's office at about 2:30 p.m. after he failed to come home, Stenderup said.

Lu is described as Vietnamese, 5 feet 1 inch tall and 125 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hat and shorts, blue-and-white tennis shoes, and was carrying a long walking stick, Stenderup said. He did not have a cellphone or cash with him, Stenderup said.

The sheriff's search-and-rescue team scoured the area for Lu using tracking dogs but was not able to locate him, Stenderup said. The San Jose Police Department also used a helicopter to search for Lu on Sunday without success.

Anyone with information about Lu's whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 or the sheriff's office at (408) 299-2311.
