Evidence of Marijuana Growing Found at Chadwick Place House

Sheriff's deputies, responding to a call for assistance in issuing an eviction, discovered evidence of marijuana growing at 11131 Chadwick Place Saturday.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office deputies found evidence of marijuana growth at a house located at 11131 Chadwick Place Saturday morning, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

Deputies were called at 11:45 a.m. to assist in a civil standby, acting as peacekeepers while the property manager evicted the house's tenants.

"We don't know how past due the rent was but obviously it had to be late for [the tenants] to be in the eviction process," Cardoza said.

When deputies, accompanied by Cupertino code enforcement officers and the property manager, entered the house, they found no one there but did discover signs of prior marijuana growing.

"There were no marijuana plants but we did find evidence of prior growth in five rooms of the house," Cardoza explained.

The evidence included packaging materials, fertilizer and irrigation equipment.

"All the things that make up marijuana growth inside a house," Cardoza said.

He added that the property manager had no idea that marijuana growth was happening inside the house when she called for assistance.

Deputies also discovered mail inside the house's mailbox that did not match the description the property manager had of her tenants. After interviewing neighbors about people they saw coming and going from the property, deputies ascertained that the people who were staying at the house aren't the people the property manager thought were her tenants, Cardoza said.

"They obviously provided false information when they were renting the house," he said.

Charges have been filed for vandalism and for operating an indoor marijuana growth operation, Cardoza said. Multiple building code violations have also been documented.

The tenants, of whom Cardoza did not know how many there are, have yet to return to the property.

"This is an ongoing investigation," Cardoza said. "The suspects are still standing and we have limited information about them, so we definitely need the public's help in identifying the tenants/suspects."
